[SOLVED] Arch doesn't boot - How do i gather more information?

Hey folks,
Sorry if i'm posting this in the wrong place, but I didn't find a better one. My laptop won't boot up anymore. I did a full system update the last time it worked, but I had a look at the packages that were to be updated, and it didn't upgrade the kernel. When I try to boot arch, it does get past the part where it loads the initram image or something, and then gets stuck after system-fsck, which does not throw any error messages. If you could help me find out what's causing this I'd be grateful!

Gaspode

P.S.: sorry for spelling errors etc. I'm typing this on my phone.

Actual output would be useful.  I bet that phone of yours takes better pictures than my crystal ball.

This I is the output. Is there some way I can edit the grub boot parameters to get a more verbose output?

BTW, the part about recovering the journal and the orphaned inode is only appearing since I did a hard reboot, so it shouldn't be part of the problem...

I don't use grub, but yes, it probably says it on the menu screen.  With syslinux I can hit TAB to modify the kernel line.  In grub(-legacy) it is 'e', and I think it may still be 'e' in grub.

It looks like you must have some very quiet settings.  Remove any "quiet" options from the kernel line.

The system is mounting and checking none boot partitions, so it is successfully booting and starting init fine - but it's hard to tell where it is actually getting stuck as there is no real output going to the screen.

Big picture is big, please edit to thumbnail (Forum Etiquette).

What DE are you runnning? I had some trouble recently where it would hang like that seemingly forever, and was already preparing an arch image to chroot. However it turned out to be some problem with gdm / intel graphics, and between failed attempts to get an UEFI iso to boot it suddenly progressed to gdm on its own. I know that sounds a bit stupid, but I would try to leave it like that for some time and see if it gets you anywhere.

Apart from that, try if you can switch to another tty, remove "quiet" from the kernel line, and/or append "systemd.unit=rescue" to boot into single user mode.

Hi,
I'm sorry, but I don't know how to post only thumbnails of pictures, is this possible via bbcode or do I need to find an imagehoster who supports that? I'll just post this one as a link then:

It stops after it says "started accounts service"...

I DO use gdm and gnome and I have integrated Intel graphics (hd3000 on an i3), but the laptop is now on for about half an hour, nothing changed. It normally takes about 10-12 seconds to boot. I can not change to another TTY. Since I removed the quiet option, I can see and move the cursor for about one second. After that it gets stuck.

Woah... I edited your post and didn't see your reply. Umm, if you edited your post just now and I accidentally erased your edit, sorry. I had to remove the large image. Feel free to edit it further but keep the images small, thanks.

Thats probably the intel/gdm bug. See here for some workarounds (kernel parameter, enable SNA.), or search the forum for "gdm intel".

Thank you very much, enabling SNA did it for me. Ill mark the thread as closed then.
