Well I switched to the ck kernel because it has it's own repo and Ive use that kernel before and it's probably a much more proven stable patchset, now r8168 works fine, and network performance seems much more responsive.
Thanks wonderwoofy for tipping me about that driver!

So it works? Esto es fantastico y fabuloso! <--That is like a good 30% of my Spanish skills right there.... check it out!
I used the CK kernel for a decent amount of time. Graysky does a wonderful job maintaining it, and the kernels are often more in line with the actual kernel releases (more like [testing]. The only reason I had to stop was because I wanted to use "systemd --user", and the BFS patchset turns off a cgroup configuration that is necessary to that functionality.
You are only maybe the fourth or fifth person that I have talked to that the r8168 module actually made a difference. But when it does it is like night and day. That small number is significant because this chipset is probably one of the more common ones found throughout laptops and desktops alike. I also cannot seem to determine what inconsistency there is between hardware that sucks with r8169 and hardware that doesn't suck with r8169.
Take note that you now also have some more features/options available to you with the r8168 module. WoL is also easily turned off (or on) with ethtool. WIth r8169 it doesn't seem to turn on or off, and I can't figure out if it is inherently on or off.

Maybe it's ignorance, people don't complain about the driver because they don't know how well it CAN work. And maybe your case was a bit unusual, Well my download of base could have been faster, but not that slow.

Yeah, 2hr on a 25Mb/s connection is *not cool*. I think people might not notice as well because use of ethenet is probably quite a bit les common now.

Actually, the driver improved my whole system actually, my whole seems much more reponsive and more stable.

Ah, glad to see you solved it, and I would never have come up with that driver.
Very cool!
