[Synopsis] Edit the boot menu entry to include the "efi_no_storage_paranoia" kernel boot parameter.
Is there any way to downgrade the kernel to 3.6.2-1 and efibootmgr to 0.5.4 when using archiso to create a live image? That's the only combination I've had work consistently.
I use the rsync method to install Arch with the kernel stub (no bootloader) from the customized live image I create and that works fine but I have to boot into an older install media to add the boot entries to the NVRAM. Doesn't seem that the silent fails of the current efibootmgr and kernel is going to be easy to solve. It's been around for a while now. I thought I had it working with kernel 3.9.1-1 but since 3.9.2-1 it seemed to have stopped again.

Backward compatibility is for the masses. There's no dual-boot here...

Kernel 3.9.5-1 and efibootmgr 0.6.0-2 seem to work now.

linux 3.9.6-1 and efibootmgr 0.6.0-3 is at it again. efibootmgr silently fails to add the boot entry to the NVRAM.
Couldn't be my BIOS because kernel 3.6.2-1 and efibootmgr 0.5.4 have worke flawlessly every time. Seems ever successive update of the kernel either stops working or starts working again or vice versa.

Try booting with "efi_no_storage_paranoia" kernel parameter and try efibootmgr again.

Great! That worked. The boot entry was added to the NVRAM. I'll try it again when the next kernel/efibootmgr updates comes out and let you know if it still does.
