As I former Mandriva packager I can only agree. ABS is far beyond rpm. No reason to fall back.

If you have a src.rpm you can easily grab the spec file and adapt it into a PKGBUID file. And make sure that you drop the damned patching thing. We make it the KISS way ;-)
