So, I'm using pulseaudio and it seems to be working in everything except for when I'm running PCSX2. It has an option to run via alsa, oss or jack and none of them function properly. So let me give a few examples.
So if I fully reboot my pc and I do nothing but boot up PCSX2 it'll function just fine, but I have to switch from OSS to ALSA and back to OSS again(something I have to do for it to work at all). It'll work just fine indefinately (from what I can tell). Now the problem comes in when I do something else like boot up skype. Then immediately the audio will start crackling really badly. i'll open up pavucontrol and go to the playback tab where it shows each audio process that is running through pulseaudio and the box for PCSX2 will show up and disappear from that tab in sync with the crackling. So it's like it's struggling to integrate with pulse but just can't do it.
I know you might be thinking "This would probably be a lot better off asked in the PCSX2 forums", and well, I did that, but that place is a bit of a ghost town as far as linux users goes. One of the devs told me that he's seen this issue before and he remembered it being related to pulse/alsa/oss and that there was a setting that fixed it, but he wasn't sure what it was because he doesn't actually use pulse. Does anyone know what might be causing this? I'm pretty convinced that it isn't an issue with PCSX2 or the audio plugin, and more of an issue with either pulseaudio or the way I have it configured (default).

I ended up using Jack and QJackctl, but in my case it was because I was enable to record audio from RecordMyDesktop with alsa or oss. Maybe it could fix your problem.
1 - Set PCSX2's audio plugin ( I use SPU2-X 2.0.0 ) for it to use Jack.
2 - install Qjackctl. Before runnig PCSX2, open it and click play button to start jack instance,
3 - open PCSX2 and it should work fine.

Thanks for the tip but that didn't seem to work.
I've messed around installing oss, and alsa, killing pulse and trying them independantly, and no sound works at all without pulse. i've went into alsamixer and unmuted all of my devices and it still didn't work.
interesting update though. I fully rebooted, loaded it up using oss specifically (becuase alsa no matter what is scratchy and very quickly connects and disconnects from pulse it seems) and it was working perfectly. Then to test it out I opened a youtube video and as soon as the vidoe started PCSX2 sound starts crackling and going haywire, but then as soon as I close the video it starts working fine agian.
