Hi all,
I know that i3status is started by i3 and piped into i3bar, but so far I have failed to find out how to tell i3 (or i3bar?) to reload i3status after I've made changes to .i3status.conf
I can certainly do this from the command line (with
i3status reload
) but I don't know how to tell i3/i3bar to do it. If I run
i3status reload | i3bar --bar_id=<id of current i3bar session>
i can see the output of the new configuration appended to the i3bar. <mod>+SHIFT+C (the key binding for reloading i3) doesn't work.
So is there a way of reloading the i3status configuration without rebooting?
Thanks.

Yes! Thank you.

And if for some reason i3 crashes but you have a terminal open, then you can do
i3-msg restart

Read the i3 User's Guide. If you have any questions about i3, they're probably answered there.
