LibreOffice menu bar text artifacts

When I open LibreOffice, all text from the menus appear to be gone, replaced by underscores or dashes. I would post a screenshot of it, but when I take a screenshot, the text appears correctly in the image (it just is not painted correctly on the screen in the program itself). Instead, through the mighty karolGoogle, I found an image showing a similar problem here. The thread that image was taken from concludes that the issue is in the xserver and is exposed through libcairo. Their suggested solution is downgrading the libcairo package (but this is the only issue I can see that I feel is directly related to cairo—and probably more likely my video-card drivers, so I'd rather avoid downgrading if possible).

Though I, like the posters in that thread, receive no errors from LO when I run it, this popped up in journalctl at the exact time I ran LO:

My video-card has been a bit annoying to deal with as it is pretty new—so, I assume, these errors might be arising due to poor support for it at the moment.

Does anyone have an idea of how I might fix (or even work around) this? I really need LO for work/school.

All the best,

Re: LibreOffice menu bar text artifacts

Try Option "ExaNoComposite" "true" in xorg.conf.

Great things come in tar.xz packages.

I don't have an xorg.conf (I have never needed one), I just have several configs under xorg.conf.d. I have been led to believe that it is better to use the separate configs rather than one xorg.conf. Would this just be better to put in a config for the radeon driver? Or, if not, should I expect to have to put anything in xorg.conf (sorry for the cluelessness, I've just never used xorg.conf).

Re: LibreOffice menu bar text artifacts

I was just using "xorg.conf" as a euphemism for "whatever the file in xorg.conf.d is called". Yeah radeon driver "Device" section is right.

Re: LibreOffice menu bar text artifacts

Fair enough. I'll give it a shot, and hopefully all will be well.

All the best,

-HG

[Edit]: I'm sorry to say that didn't have the desired effect. The problem remains.
