Native Steam package on x86_64 with intel-dri causes text corruption

I'm using the current native Steam client. I'm running lxde as my desktop environment. I'm using a Core i5-2500 CPU (intel HD 2000 graphics) with the open-source intel DRI driver and lib32-mesa for GL.

When I start the client, I get unreadable text -- it looks like corrupt textures. Here's a screen shot:

>>moderator edit: Please use thumbnails and read Forum Etiquette: Pasting Pictures and Code. Thanks. --fsckd<<

There is nothing in the client output that gives a clue about what this is:

Most of the Steam discussion here seems to be about the Wine version, rather than the native version. I prefer to use the native version.

How do I debug this? How do I fix it?

Re: Native Steam package on x86_64 with intel-dri causes text corruption

So, thumbnail of the corrupt text Steam window. Click it to see the full thing, and the terminal window that launched it:

steam-corrupt-text-thumbnail.png

I also deleted the /etc/fonts/conf.d/10-scale-bitmap-fonts.conf file, as the instructions in there seemed to want to divide by zero, and deleting the file is suggested in this bug: https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/35039

This still doesn't work right, and there hasn't been an update to the native Steam package since I posted the original question, so this is still open. How do I debug and/or fix this?

The garbled text as seen in the thumbnail indicates a missing font, have you installed ttf-ms-fonts from AUR and then install ttf-dejavu & ttf-freefont - once that's done reboot the system and see if the text issue still happens.
