Cinnamon not playing sounds, even though alsa seems to be fine
I freshly installed yesterday, and I'm running into an issue with Cinnamon. When I go into the Cinnamon sound settings, output volume is greyed out. No GUI applications seem to be able to access the audio either. However, when I do a speaker test, it plays the sound just fine and I've checked alsamixer to ensure that all the channels are unmuted.
Any ideas?

Check alsamixer again by running
alsamixer -c0Offline

Are you running them as users in the audio group? What happens when you run the media players as root?
