kdm remote login

I have been trying to get remote login using kdm (xdmcp) working, with no success. Does anyone have any idea what's missing?

I have edited the file /opt/kde/share/config/kdm/kdmrc
...
[Xdmcp]
Enable=true
...

and /opt/kde/share/config/kdm/Xaccess
...

* #any host can get a login window
...

and I tried gdm - which worked when I added "gdm: ALL" to /etc/hosts.allow (but apart from this irritation I prefer kdm).

Is there possibly some permission setting I am missing?
