[SOLVED] Bumblee + Intel/NVIDIA: Failed to load module "nvidia"

Hello, I'd like to run WoW via optirun but I'm encountering the following error:

optirun wine Wow.exe -->
[ 2496.692969] [ERROR]Cannot access secondary GPU - error: [XORG] (EE) Failed to load module "nvidia" (module does not exist, 0)
[ 2496.693027] [ERROR]Aborting because fallback start is disabled.

Attempting to run the simpler glxgears program yields the same error:

 optirun glxgears -info -->
[ 123.735534] [ERROR]Cannot access secondary GPU - error: [XORG] (EE) Failed to load module "nvidia" (module does not exist, 0)
[ 123.735609] [ERROR]Aborting because fallback start is disabled.

I've commented out all (I think) attempts to blacklist nvidia and modified config files to prevent nouveau from loading (nouveau was previously installed):
{

  • Commented out /usr/lib/modprobe.d/bumblebee.conf:

    cat /usr/lib/modprobe.d/bumblebee.conf
    #blacklist nvidia
  • There is nothing in /etc/modprobe.d/ blacklisting nvidia.

  • Commented out nouveau in /etc/mkinitcpio.conf (and ran mkinitcpio -p linux):

    head /etc/mkinitcpio.conf -->
    # vim:set ft=sh
    # MODULES
    # The following modules are loaded before any boot hooks are
    # run. Advanced users may wish to specify all system modules
    # in this array. For instance:
    #     MODULES="piix ide_disk reiserfs"
    #MODULES="nouveau"
  • My syslinux.cfg:

    cat /boot/syslinux/syslinux.cfg |grep APPEND -->
    APPEND root=/dev/sda1 ro splash modprobe.blacklist=pcspkr pcie_aspm=force acpi_osi=Linux i915.i915_enable_rc6=1

}

My Xorg.0.log:

I have no /etc/X11/xorg.conf, but I do have /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf:

Section "Device"
        Identifier      "Device1"
        Driver          "intel"
        VendorName      "Intel"
        BusID           "PCI:0:2:0"
EndSection

and /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-nvidia.conf:

Section "Device"
        Identifier      "Device0"
        Driver          "nvidia"
        VendorName      "NVIDIA Corporation"
        BusID           "PCI:1:0:0"
EndSection

Installed packages that are relevant:

pacman -Q |grep intel -->
intel-dri 9.1.3-2
xf86-video-intel 2.21.10-3

pacman -Q |grep nvidia -->
lib32-nvidia-utils 319.32-1
nvidia 319.32-2
opencl-nvidia 319.32-1
 loaded

(These packages were installed according to the bumblebee wiki)

Any help would be nice, thank you!

Re: [SOLVED] Bumblee + Intel/NVIDIA: Failed to load module "nvidia"

Ok, optirun seems to be functioning correctly now.

After reading some other boards it seems that some emphasis was being placed on the LibraryPath and XorgModulePath lines of /etc/bumblebee/bumblebee.conf. I was ls'ing through the directories and noticed the following:

%ls /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers
intel_drv.so*

Why was the intel driver the only driver in this folder? I am not sure. '#modprobe nvidia' never complained (at least I didn't see it complain).

Well, I reinstalled the nvidia package with pacman and lo' and behold:

%ls /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers
intel_drv.so*  nvidia_drv.so*

The nvidia_drv.so* decided to show up. I quickly jumped onto optirun and discovered that it was functioning.

I am not sure how this happened, but I'm marking the thread as solved.

Oh, I almost forgot. I performed two steps before trying the above which together did not fix the problem, but they may have had an influence:

  1. Removed (backed up first) both /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/{20-intel.conf,20-nvidia.conf}

  2. Blacklisted nvidia

If you looked at this to help, thank you. If you're looking at this for help, good luck! big_smile
