[SOLVED]Yet another video driver issue (NVidia GeForce GT 620)

Specs:

1920x1080 dell and 1680x1050 hp
Dell XPS 8500
NVidia GeForce GT 620
Intel i7-3770 @ 3.4GHz
Some wifi card that takes its drivers from ath9k

I have installed Arch Linux about three times already, twice in the last eight hours.
In both instances I tried to install the package nvidia, thinking that because my card, a GeForce GT 620, installing this package would be optimal. Am I correct in assuming this?

Also, when I don't install nvidia, Xorg Server reports that it cannot find that package, and halts itself.
Is there a way to bypass this?
(also, after installing nvidia and rebooting, my res on the first monitor goes from 1920x1080 to about 1200x800)

What am I doing wrong? Should I force remove mesa and nouveau, and let the nvidia package handle it?
Should I download a .run driver from NVIDIA's website and remove everything else?

All I want to do is install KDE.

From your specs i´m guessing your trying to get a dual monitor setup working, right? Did you adapt your config files to the respective drivers?

Yes, a dual monitor setup is what I was going for.
I'm assuming you're talking about the Xorg configuration files?
What would I change to make Xorg use Nouveau?

EDIT: I only have one GPU, the GeForce GT 620. I think I only need one driver.

Did you read the wiki page about the nouveau driver? Especially the part about "Coming from the proprietary NVIDIA driver" and "Dual Head"?

It's all in the wikis
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NVIDIA
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Nouveau

I'd recommend removing nvidia and using nouveau instead, google as to why people think its better.

My res is still low, but I guess I can change that later.

So what? Did you read the linked articles? Have you installed nouveau and properly deinstalled the proprietary driver?

Nouveau was already installed, and I removed nvidia and all of its dependencies.

Re: [SOLVED]Yet another video driver issue (NVidia GeForce GT 620)

nouveau generally isn't considered that great... especially for newer versions of NVidia cards. The proprietary driver actually isn't that bad (outside of being proprietary), it's quite powerful as in what it can do and holds up with Xrandr and newer Xorg releases. I don't care which one you go with, if you're using your desktop for basic operations (web browsing without WebGL or similar), then nouveau should be just fine! Just thought you should know.

Anyways, if you could post the /var/log/Xorg.0.log (assuming you only have one xorg-server running), that would be most helpful. Whenever you post it, please be sure and describe the environment the log was generated from as accurately as possible (is the nvidia package installed? Is xf86-video-nouveau installed? How are you starting Xorg? And so on...).
