For some reason gnome is dithering all over the place, but I have my color depth in X set to 24 bits.
The screen section of my xorg.conf is:
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen 1"
Device "Default Card"
Monitor "Default Monitor"
DefaultDepth 24
Subsection "Display"
Depth 8
Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
ViewPort 0 0
EndSubsection
Subsection "Display"
Depth 16
Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
ViewPort 0 0
EndSubsection
Subsection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
ViewPort 0 0
EndSubsection
EndSection
I don't know if this will help any, but xdpyinfo outputs:

Is there any way to set the color depth that gnome uses? Any help is appreciated

Solved, I just discovered that for some reason the computer I was using doesn't support 24 bit color even though x thought it could (I believe it was using hardware dithering or something of the sort).
