Background: I run XMonad, and it doesn't handle fullscreen games very well. My workaround thus far has been to launch a new X server using xinitrc. I really like this approach because it provides a very simple way to do isolation from both the window manager and the screen saver, and who knows what may happen in the future. This way of functioning also logically makes a lot of sense to me, especially when you enter the realm of virtual machines.
Problem: I recently switched from ALSA to PulseAudio, mainly because I liked the per-application volume control, and the network component is also a nice perk. However, when I switch to the new X server, the audio playback stops until I switch back. As near as I can tell based on research, the problem is that when I switch to the new X server, I am no longer the active user on the system according to systemd, therefore pulseaudio stops playing for security reasons.
Does anyone know of a workaround, either on the authentication end or reducing security measures?
I know that one potential solution is to run pulseaudio as a system-wide instance, and that might be the most desireable solution, since I am the only user on my system.
