I cannot manage to find anything about this supposed to be missing firmware... whenever I run mkinitcpio -p linux, i get a line that says:
WARNING: Possibly missing firmware for module: smsmdtv
The kernel boots properly and the image is created, though... any idea on what is this and how to solve it?
Thanks

It is only a warning, and is only in the fallback initramfs. If you don't have that hardware, you shouldn't worry about it.
Also, this topic has been covered to death in these forums since the inclusion of those warnings. Though previously there were only two missing firmware files, and now I have three (the smsmdtv being the new one).

I did a search for the module name and came up with nothing, that's why I asked... ok... so ignoring.
Thanks.

Right. I had the same, did a quick lookup..appears to be for a product USB DVB-T (Digital Video Broadcasting Terrestrial) from a company Siano Mobile Silicon Ltd.
Now I *know* I don't have one of their products. Also with me, it keeps showing up also on the second, third run of mkinitcpio and yes, only on the fallback confirmed.

If you would like to get rid of the firmware warning though just install the following package from AUR.
siano-tv-fw-0.1-1

Why install software you don't need to suppress a false warning message that you rarely see ?
