Hi there everybody!
I have been having some problems with arch and Xorg... this made me look abroad for other quick and lean distros... to no avail. X works with others but I just can't find another distro that is so.... GOOD as arch.
Anyway, I have had arch 0.7 installed before. No problems with installation over ftp or booting into my new system. But this time round I thought I'd give arch0.7.1pre a try.
The installation works fine but when I try booting into my system start to get some problems. To start off with
chainloader +1
falls out of my grub config. I can edit grub during boot to get it to work, so no larger problem... I have hade a loog att my menu.lst file from windows and can see chainloader but it doesn't turn up during boot. WIERD.
And now the major problem. I can't boot into linux. I get this code when trying:
root (hd0,2)
Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83
kernel /boot/vmlinuz26 root=/dev/hda3 ro vga=773 devfs=nomount
[Linux-bzImage, setup=0x1c00, size=0x2b3435]
initrd /boot/initrd.img
Error 15: file not found
I have hade a look for the initrd.img through windows and cannot see it in /boot.
I don't have a seperate partition for /boot. : hda1 windows hda2 linux swap hda3 / hda4 /home. I have hda1 boot flagged but not /. Could this be the problem?
I use grub and it is installed to the MBR.
Linuxkernel=2.6.13.4-3 (default install kernel)
Any help would be great!
PS. I have searched through the forums and found some info on initrd but nothing that helps me unfortunately.

initrd is introduced in kernel 2.6.14 and it is in testing, the file is called initrd26.img or initrd26-full.img

what you are saying is I don't need to use initrd.img with the kernel I have then?
Why is this then put in my grub menu.lst by default if the laoder downlaods 2.13 kernel?
Thx!

Problem solved! When I did the ftp install from the archlinux 0.7.1 CD it downloaded from current. Including the kernel. I reinstalled from the CD instead and it worked straight away.
Also solved my xorg problems, though not satisfactoroly. I am now using the vesa driver instead of a VIA driver for my inbuilt grapghics on a laptop based on the C3 Nehemoah processor. Would be better with VIA.
Still, what are ya gonna do?
