.config/dconf directory preventing settings changes in GNOME

I have the exact same issue as in this thread
I deleted the .config/dconf directory like wonder suggested but it comes coming back every time I restart my computer.
Also I don't have a .cache/dconf directory.
Is there another way to fix this?

~/.config/dconf/ is where your dconf database is stored, i.e. most of your gnome settings. Wonder said remove it coz it had the wrong permissions or the database file was corrupt. Seriously what's your issue now?

Re: .config/dconf directory preventing settings changes in GNOME

My issue is that I can't change any settings (wallpaper, favorite programs, etc...) unless I delete ~/.config/dconf/
I've tried changing the permissions to 777 but it still doesn't work.

Re: .config/dconf directory preventing settings changes in GNOME

hmm, strange. sounds like some program in the startup process routinely corrupts the dconf database?
can you run dconf-editor when you can't change any settings? run it from terminal so it may output some useful info.

I get that warning too, so not helpful.

Re: .config/dconf directory preventing settings changes in GNOME

I tried running gnome-control-center as a non-root user and got the following message:

(gnome-control-center:7436): dconf-WARNING **: failed to commit changes to dconf: GDBus.Error:org.gtk.GDBus.UnmappedGError.Quark._g_2dfile_2derror_2dquark.Code17: Cannot open dconf database: invalid gvdb header

Once I deleted ~/.config/dconf/ I didn't get it anymore and of course I was able to change my wallpaper.

Re: .config/dconf directory preventing settings changes in GNOME

The question is who is keeping corrupting the dconf database? Do you use some gnome shell extensions that might be buggy, for example?

Re: .config/dconf directory preventing settings changes in GNOME

K for some reason it's not happening anymore...
As to your question I don't use any shell extensions. This is a new install. I was going to remove gnome-tweak-tool just in case but I turned on my computer and logged in this morning and it works now.
I made more changes and rebooted and the changes remain.

EDIT: Scratch that it stopped working again. I restarted my computer and when I logged in the screen was black. I rebooted and it's happening again.
