I have followed the wiki and I got the kernel modules to work nicely, mkvmdev loads them on the start up and starting the vmware gui at X gives no error (except "atempt to put segment to horiz list twice"). I have 00-vmware.rules at /etc/udev and it has those two lines mentioned in the wiki.
Then I can create a virtual machine, set diskspace etc. Then when I click on Start to start the virtual machine **bang** I am at console. X's logs don't show anything else than "Caught signal 11. Server aborting".

I found out the reason This was caused by my USB mouse - it was activated simultaneously with the laptop's touchpad at xorg.conf. Perhaps some special settings I had at xorg.conf to make the USB mouse's extra buttons to work caused this.
I can still use the USB mouse for normal use - no wheel or other buttons work now.
