Installation - xorg server issues

Hello people,
I would like to say thanks to the people from Arch linux for making this distro, and for providing such an awesome package manager.

So i have started the Arch linux journey but sadly i have stumbled upon the first hard task before even starting. Before i start describing the problem, here is my system configuration:
Dell Inspirion n5110 with sandy bridge
Video:
Intel
nVidia 540M

ram 4GB ddr3
hdd WD 360 GB

So i installed Arch linux 07.2013, the tmxgta version, which is more noob friendly, from http://sourceforge.net/projects/tmxgta/ … rce=navbar. And i got till the point where i installed the x server using the packages xorg-server, xorg-utils, xorg-xinit

It has prompted me what type of video libgl would i like: mesa, nvidia-304xx-utils, nvidia-libgl, i selected mesa, and it all went to hell, i could not run startx, then i installed everything i could from bumblebee till primus, bbswitch, and nouveau. It didn't work. Then i uninstalled everything including X. And i started again, this timr i selected nvidia-libgl, and afetr the installation succeeded i ran nvidia-xconfig, and all seemed fine, when running startx the same errors wait for me in /var/log/Xorg.0.log:

No devices detected
No screes found.

I have read through all the material a google search could bring up related to the topic, but i really fail to see what the solution is. Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers!

Re: Installation - xorg server issues

You didn't install Arch Linux version 7 since there aren't major versions of Arch. Where did you download the install medium?

Re: Installation - xorg server issues

I suspect that is the 2013-07 iso (or however it is labeled), but that is not "version 7", it's just this months iso.

Blackmail, could you chose a more descriptive title for this thread - you'll likely recieved a more warm response for doing so, and also you'll attract users with the relevant experience to help setting up your video driver(s).

You say you have Intel and nvidua 540M, could you also provide the output of `lspci -vnn | grep -i vga`

Thank you for the kind words! I will post the results of the two requested commads. Right now i am at work but when i get home, it's arch time again.

I have edited the title of my previous post and also changed the description from version 7 to this month's releasa, also provided the link where i got the ISO from.
Thanks again, and i will be back with the required information.

I think ewaller nailed it, it sounds like you didn't install an X vid driver.

First off, let me say, I am sorry if I came across as terse before, I did not mean to be unkind. Second, it's actually really helpful to know that you used tmxgta, so thank you for clarifying that.

Also regarding the remark that i should have not installed the tmxgta version, well i have reinstalled so that i have the original one and the result is the same. I think tmxgta is a little bit more noob friendly, and i have to admit i am arch noob yet.

Cheers!
