Huge issues since 3.10.x kernel (display, GPU lockups, drivers)

Many people report serious problems since upgrading to the 3.10.x kernel on very different hardware setups. I personally have all of the issues below on a Thinkpad X230, stock Arch kernel (3.10.3-1-ARCH), all those issues only show after a least but not necessary one suspend/resume cycle.

After detailed configuration with the help of the absolutely great Arch wiki and community Arch was running great on the X230 before the 3.10 kernel, showing only very minor issues.

What's the usual path to deal with issues like this? Seems to be very laborious to revert to 3.9.x kernel, but this seems to be the only viable option.

How is it possible that those broad problems get into the stable repositories without anyone noticing? (This question only to understand how Arch works, not as an allegation).

Yeah, Intel devs are introducing quite a lot of regressions. Right now I'm stuck on kernel 3.8 because on >=3.9 rc6 is not working after suspend. But that is not ideal because 3.8 is EOL and affected by some other bugs related to intel graphics. I hope 3.11 turns out decent. The latest intel driver 2.21.13 crashes X on every login.  Had to revert linux linux-headers _and_ intel driver for things to go somewhat back to normal.  With 3.10, I was getting a hard GPU lockup every 24hrs or so with intel 2.21.12 driver. Had to cut power and reboot every evening because system completely locked up.

Yep, it's quite bad.
I've also reverted back to 3.9.9 (I was tempted to revert back to 3.8 because of this: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1272271, but it wouldn't end if I went down that road).

To be honest, the kernel seems to be going from bad to worse. I really miss the good ol' 2.6 days. We were on that branch for years, and all was great in the world
Now it seems they have to churn out kernels at a scary rate, introducing far too many regressions along the way.

Try the lastest kernel 3.11 git. X got very unstable with kernel 3.10, but much better now.

We should discuss possibility of an official mid-lts-and-latest-kernel. LTS isn't suitable for desktops and latest can introduce regressions,which seems to be a never ending cycle, that make it impossible to use.

Have you thought about using linux-lts.

Linux-lts follows the linux 3.0.** "long term support series" & is a good fall back if the current linux gives you grief.

Using linux-lts allows you to not have to worry about pinning packages & just wait till the issues get resolved.
