I upgraded the kernel on my laptop today, and now proper kernel modules aren't loaded on boot. Among other things:
1) I have no wireless connection, since the wireless module wasn't loaded. No wireless device shows up for ip link. Since this laptop has no Ethernet connection, that means I have no Internet.
2) There's no touchpad support (two-finger scrolling doesn't work, two-finger tapping doesn't work, two-finger and three-finger clicking don't work)
3) Function keys don't work, so I can't change the brightness or adjust the volume.
How do I fix this?

The laptop is an Aspire S3. I think the ath9k driver should work for wireless, but I don't know what modules I need to get the rest working.

Okay, I made a file called wifi.conf in /etc/modules-load.d with the only content being
ath9kand I still have no wireless device.

I rebooted again, on the off-chance that would fix it, and....it did. Resolved->magicallyfixed?
