I just (like 10mins ago) bought myself another 300GB with part of my Christmas bonus from work. They gave them out earlier than usual so my first present should be arriving Friday provided they send it tomorrow morning
I'm with everyone that 1GB is optimal for your average desktop, that is what I have and I don't think I've ever swapped. A mate who runs Windows upgraded to 2Gb a while ago and reckons it was a waste of money...

I often break through the 1 Gig wall using Xfce with 6 virtual desktops running xinerama Because I were not sure if 4 modules would work together I bought 2x1GB sticks - and they all work fine together. So now I have 3GB. But even after an uptime more than a month I´ve never seen more than 1,5GB used. But there´re rumours that a 64bit linux would increase that a lot. I´ll tell you.

I think I'll go with RAM upgrade first then save up for HD ....
Does dual channel have any affect on system performance or is it something that you just would not notice day to day .....?

I think dual channel ram is needed if you have a 400mhz processer thing I'm not excactly sure but I'm pretty sure it has to do with 400mhz and the processer.

Nope definately HD, only got 200GB at the moment, need more. Think 2GB memory more than enough.
