Sylpheed-Claws And The Latest Pacman -Syu

Well, if you've got sylpheed-claws installed and you run pacman -Syu to upgrade your box, you might as well forget about reviewing any valuable e-mail you've got stored there. The latest gpgme takes out libgpgme.so.6, it would seem, and sylpheed-claws won't start without it. I hope the e-mail I've been sending to the arch-dev list regarding the package testing I've been doing for the distro is archived somewhere because it no longer exists here. And the personal mail, oy! Trying to reinstall with the PKGBUILD in abs dies for the same reason. I mean, really.

Re: Sylpheed-Claws And The Latest Pacman -Syu

apparently the gpgme developer changed function calls around completely in their new version. as a result programs will have to make sure the address this in their code. the regular sylpheed package is compiled without gpgme for now and functions fineyou should be able to view/read/etc all your mail with it.

Re: Sylpheed-Claws And The Latest Pacman -Syu

whatah,

Yes, an earlier appraisal of the unvarnished sylpheed led me to choose sylpheed-claws even though it was in our "unstable" repository. Not that sylpheed-claws was without it's, shall we say, "weaknesses", but what do you use for a mail client if you're running Firebird, don't use a desktop, and want a graphical package? We don't have a PKGBUILD for Thunderbird as yet, and I'd prefer not having to employ a delete-by-hand proceedure if I didn't like or wanted to get rid of Thunderbird at any point. Now the choice is down to a non-graphical client or replacing Firebird with Mozilla and I really don't want to do either. Talk about being immobilized...

Re: Sylpheed-Claws And The Latest Pacman -Syu

Hi Sarah,

Thanks.

Where do I find the PKGBUILD for Thunderbird? I'd like try it even though it may be a little dated. I've looked in New Packages and gone back several months. Am I missing it?

Re: Sylpheed-Claws And The Latest Pacman -Syu

Hi hApy,

I've got it installed but can't start it using thunderbird or mozilla-thunderbird. What's the command to start this thing?

Re: Sylpheed-Claws And The Latest Pacman -Syu

dunno, I haven't installed it actually.

the best way to figure out the command to start something though is

pacman -Ql <pkgname>

because it lists all the packages files, just look for the file that is in /usr/bin/ or /opt/<something>

Hapy.
