Computer (almost) freeze during makepkg when compiling.

0) By "freeze" I mean, very very very long reaction time. Mouse may move by milimiters from time to time, and sometimes I get lagging reaction to keystrokes (like showing yakuake). And its INSTANT. One moment everything work reasonably, in the other all symptoms are present, and system is unresponsive.
1) I run into this problem with AUR packages firefox-kde-opensuse and linux-git (both compile heavy..)
2) I have changed makepkg BUILD DIR into /opt/tmp (with apropriate permissions) as to avoid running into problems with tmpfs residing in ram. (That was proposed as solution on Yaourt wiki)
3) No metter what method I use (aur helper: yaourt aura pacaur; manual makepkg), problem persis.
4) It seam that I get this freezing on same files that are compiled.
5) After I changed BUILD DIR i have succesfully compiled firefox-kde-opensuse twice. However I was not present during compilation, and didn't fill in sudo password. THIRD time I seen problems as usual.
6) Samll packaged like cower/packaur/yaourt compile fine.

Any ideas? (beyound changing build dir, which I already tried)

PS I humbly ask someone to move this thread to apropriate forum subsection.

Re: Computer (almost) freeze during makepkg when compiling.

these are very general information.

I think could be a temperatures problem, so try to control it during a compilation

And I have no idea what other info should I add, as I have no idea what may be the problem here..

If not temp throttling could be low memory and swapping.  What is your hardware (CPU and memory amount) and are you using a swap partition?  Other thing to add is that the BFS in linux-ck package may give you increased repsonceness here as well.

Asus N71jq

That is i7 720, and 4GB of RAM (and 8GB of swap). Though I use /opt/tmp dir for building and not /tmp.

Re: Computer (almost) freeze during makepkg when compiling.

Should be plenty... Try linux-ck and report back?

Have you set /etc/makepkg.conf to use all your CPU cores? Do you also use any -O flags?

Re: Computer (almost) freeze during makepkg when compiling.

Post the output of 'free -m' when this happens next time. You can install and run iotop too.

What's the nice & ionice level of makepkg you run?
