Can't install ATI Catalyst

Hi, I have 64bit and ATI Radeon HD 4200. I'm trying to install these drivers
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/lib3 … acy-utils/
(these are identical to the ones hosted on AMD's website)

But it won't let me install it. I've followed the instructions on the arch wiki
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AM … y_from_AMD
but it just won't work. It says it can't find the linux headers or sometihng (and yes I've installed the base-devel and linux-headers packages). Here's the log

Check if system has the tools required for installation.
fglrx installation requires that the system have kernel headers.  /lib/modules/3.10.8-1-ARCH/build/include/linux/version.h cannot be found on this system.
One or more tools required for installation cannot be found on the system. Install the required tools before installing the fglrx driver.
Optionally, run the installer with --force option to install without the tools.
Forcing install will disable AMD hardware acceleration and may make your system unstable. Not recommended.

Any help? I've never been able to get the proper ati drivers to work...

Re: Can't install ATI Catalyst

the legacy driver doesnt have the latest kernel and/or xserver support.
thats what you get with amd fglrx drivers.
they only update their drivers for HD 5xxxx and up

so you have to either use opensource drivers or downgrade your kernel/xserver

Re: Can't install ATI Catalyst

FWIW, the open source drivers are about to get proper power handling in 3.11.  So it might be worth just sticking with the open-source drivers for now, as 3.11 is not too far off.  As long as you don't do any gaming or other intense graphics rendering, I think you should be fine.

I want to play some mid to low end 2000's games. I'm not a big gamer or anything. Looks like it just isn't possible, which is a pity but I have to live with it. Thanks for the answers
