Hp laserjet p1005 does not work with hplip 3.13.8-1 [FIXED]

Dear all,

my usb laser printer is a HP P1005, and it works with linux since HP released the firmware and the drivers (both provided with hplip).
I have been using this printer for 3 years now, with Gentoo and Archlinux.

From the latest hplip update (3.13.8-1, on August the 19th), I am completely unable to print: the job is sent to the printer, which *seems* to start to print (i.e., a very quick mechanical movement/noise), than it stops and the CUPS web interface reports a "filter failed error".
I tried to remove/reinstall the printer, to reload the firmware, but nothing helps.

Only downgrading the hplip package to 3.13.7-1 version fix it.

Is anyone else experiencing a similar problem?
The cups logs seem not very helpful, any idea on how to gather any useful information to try-to-fix this problem?

MJ

We did have more topics about this printer , I have it too, and stopped working with hplip long time ago.
Just use foo2zjs from aur.

Strange that this error occurs now after 3 years without problems, but did you try this tip?

Thank you for your help.

I run hp-doctor, which reported a wrong plugin version.
So, I reinstalled the plugin (please note that the downloader needs /usr/bin/python to point to python2!), and now the printer works with the current version of hplip.

Solved!
