S/PDIF Output Cutting Off The Beggining of Sounds

I've experienced this issue in multiple distros other than arch.  Basically the first half second of all sounds are cut off.  This doesn't cause any issues when playing music or watching videos; however, sometimes my pidgin notifications don't even get the chance to play.  There's also a light pop once something is done playing.  I have turned off auto-mute in alsamixer but that does not seem to have helped.   My other analog outputs work without any issues.  Any insights as to what may be causing this delay?

Do you have this issue in Arch Linux too?

Yes, I'm having issues with Arch as well. I have tried adding 'options snd-hda-intel power_save=0 power_save_controller=N' to /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf but there's no change.  The conf file did not exist prior.  Should there be any other configuration information there?

The card and chip info from alsamixer is below.
Card: HDA Intel
Chip: Realtek ALC889

'modinfo snd-hda-codec-realtek' did not show any other options involving power or muting.
