DVD playback very dark??

Hi,
I find that whether I use Xine or mplayer to watch a movie that the playback is extremely dark. My screens work fine for other applications so I assume taht it's something to do with video playback.  Anyone else have this and know a fix??

Maybe it's something with the driver you are using in these programs.... try changing with the -V option (in xine) and see what happens.

Ok, I tried all the -V options.  None really gave any great improvement.

You could take a look at mplayer's manpage and look for eq and eq2 filters.

mplayer -vf eq=20:0 movie.avi

would increase brightness by 20 %.

The brightness and contrast can also be adjusted during playback with number keys (1-2 contrast, 3-4 brightness).
