Re: No sound in arch linux

I see that your aplay -l gives

**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 0: 92HD81B1C5 Analog [92HD81B1C5 Analog]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: HDMI [HDA ATI HDMI], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

Did you try to make default device 0 card? Also, I'm confused about your set up, are your speakers connected to your HDMI port or the jack connector?

Umm... I was trying to get sound through my headset, but now, I'm going to try getting it through my laptop's speakers first. I don't know how to change my default device by the way.

Re: No sound in arch linux

Okay, can you please post the output of iplay -l -L
and please post your /etc/asound.conf

And, how are you starting your X environment?

Re: No sound in arch linux

Ok, forget it now, I have installed bridge linux instead. Sorry for the hassle guys, but I decided to leave arch linux for now, and go back to it in the future. But thank you all for the help you have tried to give. I'm very grateful. smile

Your's sincerely/faithfully

Re: No sound in arch linux

Well, if it works for you, then enjoy.  We look forward to your return.

In the mean time, I think the problem is that alsa is configured to talk through pulseaudio, but that pulseaudio is not ready.  I noticed that dbus seems to have been unhappy which can cause all kinds of trouble; including causing pulse to fail.  It may have been tied to how you started X.

I really want to get back to this thread and try to help.  I hope to have some time this afternoon.
I've lost the bubble; if you are using Pulse, install pavucontrol and run it...

This one was the only good advice in my case... I run pavucontrol, enabled audio output and everything got to work, thank you :-)

My sound card is HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH with
Pulseaudio:
      Installed - Yes (/usr/bin/pulseaudio)
      Running - Yes
&
Jack:
      Installed - Yes (/usr/bin/jackd)
      Running - No
