Take a look through https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ad … chitecture. I actually initially tried to get pulseaudio to work on my machine and eventually gave up. After I removed all traces, it was relatively straightforward to get sound working with alsa (except the microphone is unusable but I'm not sure that's alsa's fault).
EDIT: I suspect from something I read the other day that using alsamixer to unmute is ineffective if you are using pulseaudio and that you need to use the corresponding tool. But I haven't investigated this further.

It looks like your HDMI sound is default, so you might want to switch to the analog one, but I think you'll have to get rid of pulse.
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Al … sound_card
You could try "options snd-hda-intel id=PCH index=1" with alsa alone.

As Archie, I suspect your HDMI is on by default.
Have a look here to set the analog output by default in pulseaudio : http://askubuntu.com/questions/69820/ho … ss-reboots.
For my part I still can't change this stupid setting, so I have to launch pavucontrol and make sure in the configuration panel that the output is on stereo analog. On gnome, just changing hdmi for analog in the control center has no effect, only pavucontrol can do it, don't understand why…

Ok, then. I too ran into problems with my sound card, but that does not mean you should hop to another distro. Arch Linux is more user-centric, ie. it requires the user to be willing to fix problems that he/she might run into. See: The Arch Way. But since you have already done it, good luck on the Manjaro forums.
