Hello everyone,
this is my first post in Arch Linux forum. I am a Newbie but have always managed to work things around with ArchWiki documentation, but I am having an issue I could not solve for some time now.
My HDMI audio output was working fine, but stoped working about a month ago, maybe due to some update. I use the open source ATI driver (xf86-video-ati package), and enabled the kernel parameter radeon.audio=1, like it is documented.
My graphics card is a Radeon HD 3650. I checked for the compatibility of the driver (http://www.x.org/wiki/RadeonFeature/#De … ting_names) and it seems to be ok.
Do you have any suggestion to help me?
Thank you in advance

Output of "aplay -l"?
Do you use pulseaudio? If so, what is the output of "pactl list"?

Did you try the steps in this Wiki entry?

Yeah I did.
When I play a sound to the HDMI card there are no errors displayed but I cannot hear anything...
Here's the output:
$ aplay -D plughw:1,3 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav
Playing WAVE '/usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 48000 Hz, Mono

Anything odd in the journal?
What does "amixer -c 1" say?

So the HDMI output is detected properly by ALSA, it is unmuted, and there are no errors when trying to use it... I read in another thread that somebody with a similar issue got it to work by reinstalling the xf86-video-ati package. Might be worth a try.
If that doesn't work somebody else has to chime in with suggestions.

Well I did unistall xf86-video-ati and tried xf86-video-ati-git from the AUR. Didn't know if that would work out but I gave it a try. I still couldn't get the HDMI sound working. So then I reinstalled xf86-video-ati, and still no sound.
Many thanks for your input.
I hope somenone has more suggestions

what is the output of
amixer controls | grep PCM
In particular you are looking for "PCM Playback route" numid.

There is another thread here:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=171236
Which might be the same issue.
(Same suggestion here: Maybe try the LTS kernel?)

I had the same problem. After the latest update it worked again.

Hello everyone,
I have not been around the last couple of days, but it seems that after the last update the problem was solved, just like Edward reported.
Many thanks for your help
Cheers
