Core dump in Rhythmbox after system upgrade

Apologies in advance if I'm not doing this correctly, as I don't often report issues (don't usually need to!), but this one doesn't seem to have been mentioned by anyone else yet:

Since updating the system yesterday, when I try to play a track in Rhythmbox, the application crashes. Running it from the terminal, results in this output:

(rhythmbox:2179): GdkPixbuf-CRITICAL **: gdk_pixbuf_scale_simple: assertion 'dest_width > 0' failed
**
Gdk:ERROR:gdkcairo.c:193:gdk_cairo_surface_paint_pixbuf: assertion failed: (cairo_image_surface_get_format (surface) == CAIRO_FORMAT_RGB24 || cairo_image_surface_get_format (surface) == CAIRO_FORMAT_ARGB32)
Aborted (core dumped)

I have cairo-dock running, and "cairo" is mentioned in the error message, so I thought this might have something to do with Rhythmbox and cover art (as the playing album's cover art replaces the application icon in the dock). However, quitting cairo-dock has no effect - Rhythmbox still "bombs out" when I try to play a track.

I've done a further package update, and Rhythmbox was included in it, but the error still occurs. I'm going to try a reboot and see if that fixes it - in the meantime, any advice gratefully received...

Many thanks :-)

Tim

Re: Core dump in Rhythmbox after system upgrade

Downgrade packages one at a time to see if rhythmbox, cairo or something else was at fault. Also, changing the GTK theme can't hurt.

Great things come in tar.xz packages.

Re: Core dump in Rhythmbox after system upgrade

I encountered the same error just now.

Opening the Rhythmbox menu, going to "View" and activating "Album Art" fixed it for me.

Seems there is something wrong when the widget that displays album art isn't there (which is the case when the above mentioned option is false) and a track with associated album art is played. There is nothing wrong with your cairo-dock. cairo is just the graphics library used by rhythmbox.

Re: Core dump in Rhythmbox after system upgrade

Thanks all :-)

Opening the Rhythmbox menu, going to "View" and activating "Album Art" fixed it for me.

I tried this, and it seems to have fixed the issue - hopefully a future cairo update will solve it more permanently, but I'll take this for the moment!

(I'm not here very often, so just to check: to mark this as "SOLVED", do I just have to amend the post title?)

Thanks again!

Tim

Can confirm, this fixed the crashing on song change issue.

I think a rhythmbox update would be more related (reading your issue)
