I just did an install using the 7.1-pre installer last night, and it was flawless. It took care of both the devfs to udev migration and the initrd migration. I always partition my own drives, but I gave the automagic partitioner a try, and it did an admirable job. In many ways, it reminds me of the Debian Woody installer (now the "expert" installer for Sarge), which IMO is a good thing.

I just wanted to say thanks -- I'm really enjoying Arch. Your hard work is much appreciated!

Snark, thanks for the reports on 7.1 and install, i'd been holding off putting a fresh install onto a new drive due to all the nay-saying recently.

Echoing respect and kudos to judd and the core crew, for the tireless heavy duty contribution, many thanks for a cutting edge distro.

If occasional teething trouble is the price to pay, then im happy to accept that, knowing i'll have a newer, sharper, set of teeth courtesy of someone elses generous contribution of hard work.

I really enjoy Arch too, and I've been spreading the word to a few IT friends of mine. One of them has been on RedHat for many years - he did an Arch install this week and was blown away by the ease, simplicity, and solidity of the thing.

I just bought spanking new 200GB drive and decided to do clean install. I concur to Snarkout, everything went very smoothly.

Afterwards I realised that it's time for a donation as a token of my gratitude.

Hm, I haven't tried that installer yet, but I'm going to reinstall Arch this week. And if it runs as smoothly as you say, I'll probably be using it.

When will the final version of it be released? Are we talking months?

No, I'm going to plug away and try and have Noodle ready in the next week or two. Paul Hoy has contacted me and said doc updates are almost ready.

Stay tuned, maybe we'll have an Arch Christmas present this year.

Oh yeah... Awesome job with this new kernel. I thought I'd have loads of problems, but it all went smooth as glass... And I actually think I'm liking this initrd system!

I just wanted to post my appreciation for this magnificent linux distro. I used to use slack after originally migrating from windows but i didnt like how things got updated and it usually ended in a dll-hell of sorts... Anyow, ive been using arch for probably a year and a half now and i really have no regrets. I've tried about 20 other distributions since i installed this one and still couldnt manage to find a better one to replace it. So I just felt it was probably time for me to tell you guys that i really appreciate the time and effort you put into it.

I'm writing this after reading a thread that was filled with very rude and impatient people complaining about waiting for the 0.7.1 release. I just dont want you devs to think that your whole userbase is a bunch of jerks.

Much praise to you and keep up the good work

Yes, Arch is great. I've been using it almost exclusively for three years and it's always been the best. Now, it's better than ever. Love it! I have had this same install for the last 1.5 years, but I'm planning on checking out the installer when 0.8 comes out. I know it'll be awesome.

Speaking of which, have you guys (the devs) ever thought of setting up an amazon wish list? It might seem like a weird question, but there are a lot of people who don't have credit cards who do have amazon bux out there, people in the under-20 agegroup especially. There's also the whole "Gee, $20 seems kind of stingy, but I can't afford $100. Hmmm, maybe next month." thing that goes on. With an amazon wish list, at least you might get books and CDs. Right now, even though the spice is flowing, it doesn't really seem like the cash donations are -- at least if the donations page is any indication. I hope I'm wrong.

We're planning on interviewing Judd sometime in January on TLLTS. Should be fun. I've run Debian and Slackware for a long time and Arch is very cool. It sort of reminds me of Gentoo minus the endless compiling!
