keeping logfiles small

Hello Everybody,

I wonder if there is a way to keep your logfiles (or your /var/log dir) small, like setting a quota on it?
And a subquestion , is it really nessesary to keep your log files or to have your syslog-ng daemon running?

No, it's not really necessary to have it running, but the info contained in the files can come in handy at times.  I clean mine out now and then, but otherwise do keep it running.

logrotate should take care of cleaning up log files. It keeps 4 copies of each log and runs everynight as a cronjob.
