k3b input/output error probably related to permissions

I have been away from linux for over a month now.

I just ran all of my updates and wanted to burn some dvds. So I mount my partitions just fine and fire up k3b and now its spitting out errors regardless of if I run it as root or regular user.

Heres the error:

if someone could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

* I tried windows and burning software in that is also rejecting the discs so I will have to get some new media and see what happens

The drive does not like the medium.

The Power Calibration Area is a region on the medium where
the drive shall make experiments to find the right laser
intensity for writing this medium. This experimenting
failed and thus the drive refuses to write data.

Using other media might help. Best from a different manufacturer.
But it might also be that the drive needs to be replaced, if
multiple freshly bought media fail that way.
