I installed vmware 5.5 on archlinux 0.7.1 under kernel 2.6.13 with gcc version 4.0.3 following the steps in the wiki. The install and configuration scripts seemed to run very smoothly, so I rebooted and went to run vmware and all I get is this
vmware is installed, but it has not been (correctly) configured
for this system. To (re-)configure it, invoke the following command:
/usr/bin/vmware-config.pl.
so I ran vmware-config.pl again, it seemed to work, but still when i went to run vmware, i get the same message! Is there anything i could do to fix this?

is there a file in /etc/vmware folder called not_configured or something like that?
delete that file and remove anything in your /tmp directory about vmware and try running the script again
If I recall I had to create /etc/vmware/init.d/rc0.d thru /etc/vware/init.d/rc6.d also

thank you very much! it was the not_configured file. I don't know why the init script did not delete it as it was told! thanks again!

The AUR has a good package for WS 5.5.
Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.
