PulseAudio not recognizing my HDMI correctly anymore? [SOLVED]

Hello people,

till a couple days (not sure when anymore) all was good, hdmi passthrough worked etc...

But since yesterday (at least) I have noticed that passthrough didn't work in xbmc so I started investigating.
In pavucontrol I see the Radeon HDMI output, BUT, the port is "Analog Output" and all the AC3, DTS, and co options disappeared...
In the configuration tab, I also see "Analog Stereo Output" instead of what I would expect "Digital Stereo Output".

I have tried a bunch of things, making sure all the files in /etc/pulse are default, cleaning up the cache in ~/.pulse but nogo...

What should I try?

Thanks!

well it looked like reinstalling alsa* and linux* did it...
I wasted time for nothing hmm
