[SOLVED] Skype, robotic voice

Hello, I am using pulseaudio and everything is fine with my microphone in every app except skype. In skype my voice is robotic and I can't figure out why this is happening.
I tried to google it but couldn't find any solution.

Re: [SOLVED] Skype, robotic voice

Robotic as in lots of echos?

Robotic as in clipped?

Robotic as in sounds like single sideband suppressed carrier amplitude modulation?  (Think about the movie "Starwars" when the rebel ships were attacking the Deathstar -- when they went through the magnetic interference, the ship-to-ship communications sounded like SSB SC AM)

Re: [SOLVED] Skype, robotic voice

Well, I've created this file https://www.dropbox.com/s/6qlmbwngn0c68t8/test-mic.wav
At the first half you can here my voice how it is recorded in arecord and then how it is played back by skype.
// Sorry if my voice or English pronunciation annoys you:)

Re: [SOLVED] Skype, robotic voice

I saw it here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pu … _crackling
In my config there already is following:

### Automatically load driver modules depending on the hardware available
.ifexists module-udev-detect.so
load-module module-udev-detect tsched=0
.else
### Use the static hardware detection module (for systems that lack udev support)
load-module module-detect
.endif

And i have this module. I tried to replace it to just load-module module-udev-detect tsched=0, but it didn't help.

Re: [SOLVED] Skype, robotic voice

I guess I would call that echo plus missing samples.

Re: [SOLVED] Skype, robotic voice

So what can I do to probably fix it? It's very strange, because happens only in skype and I couldn't find anyone with the same problem.
Maybe there can be log files that can help or something?

Re: [SOLVED] Skype, robotic voice

You could try to copy and edit /usr/bin/skype (it's a script) and change the value of the latency, try with other values and see if there are any changes[1-2].
Also check which resampler is being used by pulseaudio, that can also cause problems [2].

Re: [SOLVED] Skype, robotic voice

Oh, thank you very much. I saw that topic, tried to launch with PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=30 and it was unsuccesful, so I gave up then. Now I opened /usr/bin/skype and found out that there already was PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=30, so I tried value 60 and now it sounds well. Very nice!
