Assigning a "Workspace" to a "Monitor" in OpenBox (xrandr)

As far as I know it is possible to do so in I3 wm.
(http://i3wm.org/docs/userguide.html#workspace_screen)

I really want this feature .
By arranging like that, I could place the browser with reference right of me ;
and I still can move to other workspace as the reference still remains on the other monitor.

But I don't want to switch to I3 since I want to stay in Openbox.
((Switching to a brand new environment is such a pain in the ass ...... ))
PyTyle is good enough for me after all.

I thought it may be achieved by modifying the X configs.
However , I won't have an additional monitor as I went back to my apartment.
So I want to do it with dynamic way (e.g. xrandr) .

Hope there is such a way to get the same feature in OpenBox with xrandr ......(sigh)

I THINK that's a window manager feature, not an X feature... And Openbox (once again, I THINK) doesn't have that capability.

Would an insanely simple workaround be sufficient? Put the browser on the monitor to the right of you then press the button on the title bar of the window to "pin" it. As you cycle through workspaces on the left, the browser will stay put on the right. smile

There's a fork of Openbox called openbox-multihead, does what you need big_smile It's in AUR and I've been using it for ages, works good!

Thanks for the idea ; I went to openbox config to set a particular browser to display on all desktops ,which makes it look like "pinned" on the monitor.
Maybe I will use xdotool to grap the window and move along when I have time.
