Add 'alsa' to your DAEMONS list in rc.conf. And you can probably prefix it with a @ if you want.

After you get your sound volumes the way you want them. Open a terminal and do
alsactl store
as root.

Get your volume right, do a (as root)
/etc/rc.d/alsa restart
and enjoy!

Thanks for the replies..
here the weird thing.. there is no alsactl command for me, tried /etc/rc.d/alsa restart but said that there is no alsa in that folder..

ok.. searched for any alsa packet available and installed them all..
alsactl is available now..
