IBM T42 hibernate sleep

I have a IBM T42 and would like to get it to sleep in ram. just that it doesn't run out of battery after 2 hours in my bag.

if anybody got it working I'd be very happy to know how.
just sleep, not hibernate since that needs a custom kernel.
