Can anyone tell me if the operation of the kernel mechanism for notifying applications of changes to files has changed recently? I have two very recent (and apparently converse) problems:
(1) I have used gftp for years. Normally, when I edit a file locally, then save it, I see a notification that the file has changed and asking me if I want to re-upload to the server. This has stopped happening.
(2) I have used emelfm2 as my file manager for several years. Recently, when displaying a directory in which a file has changed while the program is open, the display constantly resets itself to reflect the change. This is annoying in a large directory, because the alphabetical sort takes me back to the top.
