Matrox g200ew video issues

I am having video issues. I would preffer not having to add a video card but it starting to look like its gonna happen.

I have a supermicro motherboard with onboard Matrox g200ew.

So far it has been nothing but problems. The scroll rate at the console is unbearably slow. I get faster scroll rate when I ssh in remotely!!

X is also not working. When I try to startx I get an error:

[    601.189] (EE) mga: The PCI device 0x532 at 09@00:03:0 has a kernel module claimint it.

lsmod reveals that: there is a mgag200 kms driver loaded.

Obviously something going on with the kernel mode driver. Any sugestions on getting this working?
