Hey there,
just a few days ago, I upgraded the kernel of my system to 3.12.1-1-ARCH. Vmware Workstation 9.0.2 was running great before the upgrade. But now when I try to start any of my virtual machines (suspended, non suspended) I am always getting the error: Transport (VMDB) error -14: Pipe connection has been broken.
I also upgraded the vmware-modules-dkms package and reinstalled the kernel modules and made sure they are loaded. A clean install of vmware-workstation and vmware-modules-dkms didn't change anything as well.
Does anyone know what's wrong and/or what's causing that error? Please let me know if you need more information. I am grateful for any help.

I did some more testing and figured out that everything is fine and running again, if I run vmware-workstation as root.
But this does not solve the problem. I guess this might have to do with wrong permissions for the user?
I was not able to find any logs by vmware. Does anyone know how to make vmware output a log to console or a file? /var/logs doesn't contain anything vmware related.

Thanks kgcf2001. I tried the changes and when I run /etc/init.d/vmware start everything is fine except:
Virtual ethernet failed
I still don't see how this is connected to the fact that I can run vmware as root just fine.
