[SOLVED] VirtualBox can't restore saved session / NS_ERROR_CALL_FAILED

Hi there!

Since I've switched all my computing tasks to me laptop, a Thinkpad T400, 4 GB RAM, I am not able to restore sessions in VirtualBox.
I first thought this could be a temporary problem that will be fixed with an update, but nothing happened yet, althought the package was updated several times now.

I'm able to run VirtualBox guests without problems. Saving them is also possible. But when I want to load a saved session, the progess bar appears that it loads the saves session, the VirtualBox window also appears with the last saved content, but then, I only get this message:

Failed to open a session for the virtual machine hornet.

No error info.

Result Code: NS_ERROR_CALL_FAILED (0x800706BE)
Component: ProgressProxy
Interface: IProgress {c20238e4-3221-4d3f-8891-81ce92d9f913}

And the session appears as "aborted" in the VirtualBox Manager.
I think it is a local problem with my machine only. In the past, on my desktop PC, it worked perfectly.

Does anyone had a similar problem, and maybe a solution for this?

Thanks!

I also have the same issue after upgrading  virtualbox (4.2.18-1 -> 4.3.2-1) and virtualbox-ext-oracle (4.2.18-1 -> 4.3.2-1).
The last part of my VirtualBox log is

I am running the latest Arch x86_64 on a Dell Latitude E5500.
If more information is required to investigate this please let me know.

But I think this is a VirtualBox problem, not a problem with Arch (I think).

Best regards

Re: [SOLVED] VirtualBox can't restore saved session / NS_ERROR_CALL_FAILED

Hi guys,

I'm seeing this exact same problem now, but only after upgrading from VirtualBox 4.3.6 to 4.3.8.

Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Sidon.

No error info.

Result Code: NS_ERROR_CALL_FAILED (0x800706BE)
Component: ProgressProxy
Interface: IProgress {c20238e4-3221-4d3f-8891-81ce92d9f913}

Did you ever find any solution or workaround?

Re: [SOLVED] VirtualBox can't restore saved session / NS_ERROR_CALL_FAILED

Last time it was a bug in virtualbox if I'm not mistaken of the issue.

saving and loading the state works fine for me though
did you try restarting the virtual machine and saving it again?
