Just built a system on an Asus H87i-Plus. I move my existing SSD (configured for EFI booting i.e. contains FAT32 partition with rEFInd configured) but the motherboard's firmware refuses to boot it. I have secure boot in the BIOS set to "Other OS" and the BIOS indicates:
Secure Boot state = disabled
Platform Key state = unloaded
Yet, when I try to "Launch EFI Shell from filesystem device" I get a message stating that secure boot is in fact enabled! Anyone experienced this before/know of a solution?
Secure Boot is enabled to prevent untrusted operating systems from loading during the system start-up. To launch UEFI shell, please disable Secure Boot option or acquire digital signature for UEFI shell file and store it in a USB flash drive."

Solved... this is an error in the BIOS from Asus. Flashing to the latest version fixes.
