Radeon Glamor troubleshooting

Using this card:

$lspci | grep VGA
02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Cape Verde XT [Radeon HD 7770 GHz Edition]

Without any /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d settings applied the default AccelMethod is glamor (If I understand correctly using glamor is the only way to get hardware accelerated video decoding for VLC, etc.).

However, with glamor I have tearing and infrequent/random font glitches in Firefox which I don't have with EXA.  Is there anything I can try to resolve this?

Thanks.

Re: Radeon Glamor troubleshooting

Hi,

have you tried glamor-egl-git from AUR?
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/glamor-egl-git
maybe that fixes some of the tearing issues.

And what do you use VLC for exactly? I use mplayer and youtube-viewer for watching videos and it works great on my HD 6950.

Appart from that I have no idea.

Re: Radeon Glamor troubleshooting

I haven't used glamor-egl-git.  Thanks for the suggestion.

I use VLC for videos and can give mplayer a try.

Firefox font glitching is the greater concern than tearing.  It's always been a problem with glamor and it goes away with EXA.

Thanks for the reply.

Re: Radeon Glamor troubleshooting

Does this also apply to you?

You might check your /var/log/Xorg.0.log if the glamor module is loaded correctly.
