I can't install Gpredict

There seems to be some problem with Gpredict (satellite tracking software), I posted some info here https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/gpredict/
Any help would be great, I'm a ham radio operator.

Re: I can't install Gpredict

How are you going about installing it?   Which method?

Re: I can't install Gpredict

what do you mean? I tried with yaourt but it failed with some errors (as described in the 'comments').
I'm considering using a .deb package but would prefer to avoid that.
TIA

Did you try the suggestion offered by DL0?

Yes, I tried that. I'm probably hitting another compile error, as user 'einseenai' is also expressing.

Re: I can't install Gpredict

Stop using yaourt when you have problems. If you tried with makepkg, you'd see the problem isn't with gpredict, but with grig. Check it's AUR page for a solution.

The AUR page for grig is not very clear on how to modify the package to solve the problem. Is there any way to tell yaourt to skip the grig package? since I really don't need it. Otherwise, how can I fix this? do I need to download the grig package and edit main.c as posted by user 'lachesis' ?

I'm fairly new to archlinux and yaourt, sorry if this seems too obvious.
Thanks for any tip.

Yes.
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Patching_in_ABS talks about ABS, but the general info about patching is still useful.

Re: I can't install Gpredict

*IF* gpredict will build/work without grig, you can just edit the PKGBUILD and remove grig from the depends array. If it really does need grig, you need to apply the patch posted by lachesis.

Re: I can't install Gpredict

I'll try editing PKGBUILD and see what hapens, I'm pretty sure it's not required.
Thanks!
