Hello-
I have recently started having a problem with my computer. I cannot get the network card to detect the cable. The cable worked before with this computer, and still works with other computers.
The problem started 30 Nov 2013.
There were recent upgrades of networkmanager as well as util-linux, linux-firmware, linux-api-headers, mkinitcpio, and linux (3.9.8-1 to 3.12-1), but looking through the logs there were working reboots after all of these upgrades.
The network device shows in lspci
the kernel driver is loaded
dmesg shows the driver loading as well as networkmanager seeing the interface
kernel reports 'no link during initialization' and 'link is not ready'
modprobe -r and re-modprobe forcedeth leads to same messages and does not fix the problem
ip link shows
lenp0s8: <NO_CARRIER,BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP> .. ... state DOWN
Any ideas of where else to start looking?

I just booted from an older arch boot usb drive, and it had the same results.
I'm wondering if the hardware is bad.
The version i'm booting from has a kernel of 3.6.4-1-arch
The strange thing is that the last time the network card was working, it was working until it was taken down during a power-off.
Is there something i can check with ethtool or another tool?
A cursory glance shows
Speed: Unknown!
Duplex: Unknown! (255)
Link detected:no
Everything else looks normal

The status of the other nics has not changed.
