Hi All,
I am running KDE and when the backlight changes there is a 2 or 3 second period where the screen becomes very sluggish and the mouse skips. This seems to happen when the bar at the bottom of the screen is showing the back light level. I have tried the various combinations of back light settings here.
If anything those setting just seem to make the screen sluggish the whole time... almost unusable.
here is a listing of my back lights:
[swinchen@mainsail ~]$ ls -l /sys/class/backlight/
total 0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Dec 4 10:02 acpi_video0 -> ../../devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.0/backlight/acpi_video0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Dec 4 10:02 intel_backlight -> ../../devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.0/drm/card0/card0-LVDS-1/intel_backlight
Does anyone have anything else I should try. Honestly this is just an annoyance and not really a deal breaker.

I should also mention that when using acpi_backlight=vendor I get this:
[swinchen@mainsail ~]$ ls -l /sys/class/backlight/
total 0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Dec 4 10:32 dell_backlight -> ../../devices/platform/dell-laptop/backlight/dell_backlight
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Dec 4 10:32 intel_backlight -> ../../devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.0/drm/card0/card0-LVDS-1/intel_backlight
